Marcus Beauregard

Picture
Marcus Beauregard has had a passion for art all his life. Marcus graduated from Virginia Tech School of Architecture in 1975 with a BA in Fine Arts (focus on painting and printmaking).

After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and spent 27 years as an Air Force Officer. Not having the opportunity to continue printmaking, he painted during this time. After retiring from the Air Force, and while working for the Department of Defense as a civilian at the Pentagon, he bought a small press in 2014 and began printmaking again.

He participates in colonial market fairs as an eighteenth-century printmaker, demonstrating printing processes on site. He retired from DoD in 2022 and joined Printmakers Inc in June of 2023. Marcus continues to paint and explore various printmaking techniques.

Artist Statement

I am a painter (primarily oils), and an intaglio printmaker–using dry point, etching, and mezzotint (I have yet to do an engraving, but I’m working up to it).  My print work is primarily black and white, based on the traditional approach to etching and mezzotint, stemming from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.  I am fascinated that intaglio printmakers today use the same processes and techniques employed by the old masters.  I find that a black and white print, when well executed, has a timeless quality to it.  I also enjoy telling people about the intaglio printing processes, because these processes are unknown to most people, and they appreciate discovering these techniques.  I am always amazed when I show people how a print is made from a plate using a press–“wow” is the usual response when they see the finished product.
