Pamela Day

Picture
A native of Camp Springs, MD, Pamela Day received her B.A. in Art from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. She began studying printmaking in the early 1980s under Allan Kaneshiro and Penny Barringer at Discover Graphics Atelier.

She began teaching etching for the Art League School, Alexandria, VA, in 2003, and joined Printmakers Inc. in 2020.

Often based on her own photographs, Pamela creates animal portraits and landscapes and particularly enjoys creating color monoprints from etchings.

Artist Statement

My current work is a series of portraits of nature: flowers, animals, sea creatures, rocks, shells, trees. I particularly like animal portraits. I work from my own photographs and turn these into etchings using a variety of techniques, from line etch and aquatint to soft ground texture and drawing, plus drypoint, spit bite, and marbleizing. Sometimes I use monoprint techniques to enhance the color of a piece. I have over 30 of these in the series so far. In addition, I have quite a few cat prints and pet portraits. I have also been interested in working from old family photos and have been creating a series of softground drawing etchings. I foresee these coming together with landscapes to portray family life.
